we're nearly there!

We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to or shared our Kickstarter campaign over the past few weeks. Every like, tweet and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr has made a world of difference! We are so lucky to have so many people that believe in what we're doing and are willing to do anything they can to support us, every little bit helps!

L-R: Pick No.41 in The L.A. Times Gift List, our feature on IAMTHELAB.COM, our cards in The L.A. Fashion Magazine's Gift Guide
We felt very fortunate to have been chosen as Gift Pick No. 41 in the L.A. Times' Handmade Holiday Gift List as well as being included in The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine's Holiday Gift Guide. IAMTHELAB has also written a lovely blog post about us and our Kickstarter! Speaking of which, have you heard? Kickstarter backed our project and even included it in their holiday newsletter!

L-R: The Heidelberg Windmill being loaded into our new studio building, Rosemary waiting on the loading dock, the C&P paper cutter on the forklift outside our new studio building.
We've been very busy here in L.A., we received delivery of our new equipment a few weeks ago! Everything arrived a lot earlier than expected during the week between Unique and Renegade! Our new studio isn't quite ready for the new machinery, so we're storing it in an adjoining unit, but we're really looking forward to moving them in early in the new year.

Take a look at our project on Kickstarter!!!
For the moment, we're doing everything we can to make sure that our Kickstarter project is fully funded, don't forget that unless we reach our goal, we won't receive a penny of your very gracious pledges. If you haven't had a chance to take a look at our project, please do so now. If you believe in what we're trying to do, please give us a hand if you're able to. And please keep sharing our project with your family and friends, it really does make a difference.

As many of you know, we recently had some really great news to share about the direction Ink+Smog Editions will be taking in the new year. Well, we are very excited to announce the launch of our Kickstarter campaign!

We hope you'll come take a look at our project, we have some pretty sweet rewards to share! If you believe in what we're trying to do but can't contribute financially, the best thing you can do is share our project with your friends, family and followers on social media, every little bit helps!

Thank you so much for all of the kind words and amazing encouragement we've received since we announced our expansion plans back in October. It's been absolutely amazing, and we feel truly lucky! And speaking about being grateful, we couldn't have launched this project without some amazing help from our friends at Half Cut Tea. If you haven't heard about them yet, go check them out now. Their work is amazing!

We're going to be at Renegade LA this weekend at Booth #129 if you want to stop by and say hi. We're so excited about all the changes, and can't wait to share them!

Ink+Smog Editions at West Coast Craft

Our panoramic view of the Bay from Fort Mason Center as the sun was setting on Sunday night.
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see us this past weekend at the West Coast Craft show in San Francisco. We had such a great time catching up with old friends, visiting with family and meeting so many new and interesting people! These events are a lot of work, but they are so worth it!

Our WCC booth, including the amazing wall built for us just for the event!
Not only was this the very first WCC show, it was also our very first show on the road. We wrote a guest blog post about our experience for Academy of Handmade, you can take a look at it here. You can also check out some great photos of the event taken by SF Art Enthusiast.

L-R: Some of our new Bay Area items, some additions to the Greetings from… series, Neon Signs of the Bay Area and I Heart SF flat note card sets.
Since we were going to be in the Bay Area, we decided to launch some of the new designs we've been working on a little early! We now have a collection of Bay Area neon sign cards, as well as a variety of other Bay Area and San Francisco specific cards and prints. We should be listing them in the shop very soon!

L-R: Abacus Row, A Question of Eagles, Elyse Graham.
All in all, our first show away from home was a resounding success and we can't wait to do it again!

Hope everyone is having a great fall, we're certainly enjoying the foggy rainy days here in L.A.!

Thank you for coming out to Artisanal L.A.!

L-R: Robin installing our vinyl sign with our friend Robert from Lustered Walnut, working on the display, our booth fully installed and ready for a busy weekend!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see us at Artisanal LA a few weeks ago! It was great to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones. It was especially fun to meet some of our Instagram followers in person! It was such a treat to participate in a show that provided sturdy walls, so we took the opportunity to work on some display ideas we'd been thinking about for a while. It was so nice of our friends Sharon and KC from Academy of Handmade to notice, they featured our display on their blog as an example of good signage.

L-R: Someone came by our booth with a Helms Bakery neon sign tattoo, our 2013 Holiday Collection turned a lot of heads, our booth shared with Lustered Walnut was pretty busy throughout the weekend!
We're hard at work, getting ready for the L.A. Salt craft show coming up on Sunday November 3rd and West Coast Craft in San Francisco November 16+17. We can't wait to show off our new Bay Area neon sign cards and calendars that are currently in production.

L-R: Our SF Ferry Building inked up and ready to carve, the linocut blocks for our Bay Area Neon Sign cards ready to proof, our carved Ferry Building linocut block.
We're also preparing to launch our Kickstarter campaign very soon and hunting for a new studio space, so stay tuned!

Thank you for a lovely weekend! It's always so much easier to deinstall!

we have some exciting news to share

We are very excited to announce that Ink+Smog Editions is expanding! Over the summer, we found out that good friends of ours who run L'appât, a small print shop in Rosemary's hometown of Montréal were moving to Europe and would not be able to take their equipment with them. After much deliberation, we decided to buy their 1960s Heidelberg Windmill letterpress, industrial Chandler&Price Craftsman paper cutter as well as their lead type and tools. Basically, we bought their whole shop!

The Heidelberg Windmill and C&P Craftsman hard at work in the L'appât studio, run by Rebecca Rosen and Quentin Pillot (photo from their website).
This will be a complete game changer for us, it will allow us to function as a print shop for other people's projects as well as continue to offer our own line of urban paper goods. We'll also be able to run community workshops, and start an artist residency program for emerging artists in collaboration with The Pretty Gallery here in Los Angeles. The Danielle DeMers artist residency will give an emerging artist the opportunity to work with us in Los Angeles each summer in order to produce a special editioned work. This project is near and dear to our hearts, in memory of our dear friend who passed away recently. She was a printmaker and artist who herself would have benefited from this residency.

L-R: The moment we decided to take the plunge and buy the press, the beautiful beast of a machine we can't wait to start working with!
We're very busy looking for a new larger location, organizing the transportation of their studio from Montreal to Los Angeles, as well as getting ready for the events we'll be participating in this fall and winter! If everything goes according to plan (fingers crossed!) we should be receiving delivery in our new location shortly before the holidays!

L-R: Our current bottlejack printing press in our living room studio space, we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign very soon so stay tuned!
But we can't do it alone! We will be launching a Kickstarter campaign over the next few weeks to help with some of the transportation costs as well as some of the costs of getting properly set up in our new larger workspace. Your help and generosity mean the world to us as we work to grow our business in an intelligent and responsible way. If you believe in what we're trying to do but can't contribute financially, the best thing you can do is share our project with your friends, family and followers on social media, every little bit helps!

We really want to thank all of you for all of the encouragement and support you've given us over the past year, we couldn't have done it all without you!

Wish us luck!

save the date for Ink+Smog at Artisanal LA in October!

We're very happy to announce that we'll be taking part in the Artisanal LA Fall 2013 show at the LA Mart in downtown LA! We're really excited because we went to the very first Artisanal LA show not long after we arrived in LA, it was one of our first real outings after getting settled in the city. It kind of feels like we're coming full circle now that we'll be participating as vendors!
Our very own Rosemary Dardick is quoted on the Artisanal LA website (ignore the typo please!)
We're also really excited to be sharing a booth with our very good friends from grad school Marie and Robert of PM&T. They will be representing their product line Lustered Walnut. We have completely fallen for their clay and wood pieces. We are particularly coveting their Hot Mug

Lustered Walnut for PM&T, our friends Marie Perrin-McGraw and Robert Turek
You might also remember that Robert built our neon sign inspired greeting card displays that got lots of oohs and ahhs at UniqueLA, Renegade and Eastside Handmade this summer.

We're working on some other pretty big projects right now that we can't wait to share with you so stay tuned!

Looking forward to fall!

looking back on this summer

L-R:Our drying rack full of Silverlake neighborhood postcards, carving Santa Monica Radiator Works, ink for our letterpress Greetings cards in pool blue
We're really gearing up for Fall and Winter over here, even though it's still warm and sunny short wearing weather here in L.A. And as we work on our holiday collection we can't help but think back about the amazing and busy summer we've had!

L-R: Robin hanging out at Kelly Paper, packaging our Westside LA Postcards, photo shoot for our 2013 f/w Look Book
This summer, we launched a number of new items and relaunched some old favorites! We expanded our neighborhood postcards, added Some City Birds and Some More City Birds to our note card sets and began offering limited editioned prints like our Cinerama Dome, Norm's Santa Monica and Sun-Lake Drugs. This meant a lot of time at Kelly Paper in Hollywood and even more time printing in the studio!

Eastside Handmade hosted by Shopclass in Highland Park in August
We also participated in a number of craft shows this summer, including our very first Unique LA and Renegade shows. And, wrapped up the season at one of our favorite local pop-up shops, Eastside Handmade in Highland Park. We were so happy to take part in the summer version of this show, we had such a great time hanging out with our neighbors Hello Neighbor (participating in her very first show!) and our real life neighbors at Love&Arrow.

Finally a day at the beach in Malibu. It was sooo hot, even on the Westside!
We also had some splendid visits from old friends and family, and actually managed to make it to the beach during our latest heat wave!

Summer sunset in Koreatown, Los Angeles.
It's been a delightful summer, full of ups and downs! Summer of 2013 you've been grand, we're kind of sad to see you slowly fade away, but we're also excited as we turn towards a busy and promising fall and winter!

Hope you've had a great summer too!
